Kurt Wenner est un artiste connu en particulier pour ses peintures de rue réalistes, et ses peintures murales faites à la craie à l’aide d’un procédé appelé l’anamorphose, créant une œuvre en 3D spectaculaire.
Originaire de Ann Arbor dans le Michigan, Kurt Wenner réalisa sa première œuvre murale à l’âge de seize ans sur commande. A dix-sept ans, il vivait déjà de son art. Kurt Wenner étudie à la Rhode Island School of Design ainsi qu’à l’Art Center College of Design.
Il fut employé par la NASA comme illustrateur pour créer des tableaux conceptuels de projets dans l’espace et de paysages extra-terrestres. En 1982, il vend tous ses biens, et part en Italie étudier l’art.
En 1991, on lui commande une pièce pour honorer la visite du Pape Jean Paul II dans la ville de Mantua. L’évènement est alors retransmis en direct à la télévision à travers l’Italie. Depuis, ces œuvres de rue à la craie ont été de nombreuses fois citées dans des articles et reportages.
