Pierre Matter est né le 4 avril 1964 dans le Haut-Rhin, dans la vallée de Munster. Enfant mystique puis adolescent tourmenté, il fait sans conviction des études mathématiques. Tout ayant une logique, il se dirige naturellement bien que de manière erratique au début, vers l’univers mystérieux de la création artistique.
Son cheminement dans ce domaine l’amène à se confronter à toutes sortes d’expressions et de matières, de l’huile à la gouache à l’encre, de la bande dessinée à la toile en passant par le bas relief en pierre.
Cependant, la logique cachée des évènements – hasard pour les sceptiques – le conduit à privilégier le travail du volume. Ses bronzes et illustrations dégagent un sentiment de puissance que semble offrir la technologie moderne.
Pierre Matter est un sculpteur-ferrailleur français, ses métal-animaux traduisent l’imbrication entre la nature et l’homme. Il reflète l’inquiétude de la monstruosité de la technologie et la puissance.
